2008 Skywarn™ Spotter and CoCoRaHS Training Schedule

2008 Skywarn™ Spotter Training Schedule

The National Weather Service relies on trained volunteers to supplement doppler radar information on severe storms and tornadoes. These dedicated individuals volunteer their time to learn about and detect severe weather. Their valuable cooperation is important in the warning process. Weather reports from trained spotters are used along with doppler radar data to issue warnings of tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and flash floods.

Spotter Training Classes will cover topics discussing Severe Thunderstorms that produce damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes and flash floods. Severe Weather and Lightning Safety will also be discussed.

2008 CoCoRaHS Training Schedule

CoCoRaHS stands for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network. CoCoRaHS is a grassroots volunteer network of backyard weather observers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and map precipitation (rain, hail and snow) in their local communities. The only requirements to join are an enthusiasm for watching and reporting weather conditions and a desire to learn more about how weather can effect and impact our lives.

CoCoRaHS Training Classes will cover how to measure rain and snow accurately. The classes will also cover how to report the precipitation measured on a daily basis on the website.
